non-functional bikes that were donated, painted red, and placed in
various businesses and locations ahead of the Ride/Walk/Run event.
(contributed photo) Thank you for supporting the MAIN EVENT! 140 participants (including riders, runners, walkers, and volunteers) and more than 40 sponsors helped to make it a success!
TTAC event participants registered ahead of time or on-site at the Katy Trail trailhead in Rocheport. All participants received an event t-shirt and a "goody bag" featuring items donated by the event sponsors. (contributed photo) The Trail to a Cure Bike Ride/Run/Walk Event on May 4, 2008 was a great success. Read about it and check out the video by Missourian journalists. More than 40 TTAC volunteers helped with everything from event set-up to emceeing the festivities to designing the TTAC web site. Our event photos are now online for you to browse, download, or order prints. TTAC event sponsors donated items that were awarded to winners of the "Silent Raffle" at the Post-Event Celebration at Les Bourgeois A-Frame Winery in Rocheport. (contributed photo)
All donations are tax deductible, and 100% of funds raised by participants will be passed along to Trail to Cure’s beneficiaries for the 2008 event: amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and Rain of Central Missouri. Please note: all aspects of this event are planned and administered by TTAC. TTAC board chair, Liz Rettke, make announcements in between songs peformed by Artie's Univibe at the Post-Event Celebration. (contributed photo) 2008 Bike raffle winner: Angie Crump was the winner of the $500 2008 Raliegh trail bike provided by Trailside Cafe and Bike Shop. Congratulations, Angie! TTAC event volunteers included the "Sweep Crew" -- three volunteers who rode the entire length of the route to ensure safety and also repaired several bicycles for event participants. (contributed photo) In the battle against Apartheid, we scored a tremendous victory in the face of considerable evil. This solidarity of people from around the world...strengthened us at some of our darkest moments. Now as we enter another battle - the battle against HIV/AIDS, we need true solidarity, the same passion, the same commitment and energy." --Desmond Tutu, South African Archbishop Emeritus and Nobel Peace Laureate
TTAC event participants included teams such as "The Big Ligs," two of whom are pictured. (contributed photo) Join us in the fight, because HIV/AIDS affects everyone.
TTAC event participants included Truman the dog--he actually raised money as an event participant and was kind enough to bring his "mom" along for the event. (contributed photo) |
